Gimhae Airport to Busan City Center: Every Route Compared

Start by picking a priority, not a route

Every route out of Gimhae Airport is a trade-off between cost, luggage comfort and how close it drops you to your hotel. If you're staying near Haeundae or Gwangalli, the light rail involves a transfer that's mildly annoying with heavy suitcases — the limousine bus is usually worth the extra cost. If you're headed to Seomyeon, Nampo-dong or Jagalchi, the light rail is fast, cheap and rarely crowded outside rush hour.

There is no train that runs directly from the airport to Haeundae or Gwangalli, so anyone heading to the east side of the city should compare the limousine bus against a taxi before deciding.

Option 1: Busan-Gimhae Light Rail (cheapest, best for the city center)

The airport has its own light rail station connected directly to the terminal. Take the light rail to Sasang Station, then transfer to Busan Metro Line 2 to continue into the city — Seomyeon is about one stop further on the metro from Sasang.

A T-money or Busan transit card brings the one-section light rail fare to roughly 1,600 KRW, with a discounted combined fare when you transfer to the metro within 30 minutes, so the full trip into town usually stays under 2,000 KRW. Buy or top up a card at any convenience store or station vending machine before you board.

• Best for: Seomyeon, Nampo-dong, Jagalchi, Sasang-adjacent hotels
• Not ideal for: Haeundae or Gwangalli — expect at least one extra transfer
• Luggage note: stations have elevators, but platforms can be narrow at peak times

Option 2: Airport limousine bus (best for Haeundae, Gwangalli and heavy luggage)

Limousine buses leave directly from arrivals and run non-stop or near non-stop routes to specific hotel districts, which makes them the least stressful option after a long flight. Bus 201 and 310 both serve Seomyeon in roughly 50–70 minutes depending on traffic, and other routes reach Haeundae and the eastern beach areas without a transfer.

Buses accept card payment (T-money, credit card or transit card) at the driver or a ticket machine — cash is generally not accepted, so make sure you have a card ready before boarding. Check the route number board at the airport bus stop, since numbers and stops are periodically adjusted.

Option 3: Taxi and ride-hail

A regular taxi from the airport to Seomyeon or Nampo-dong typically costs somewhere in the 20,000–30,000 KRW range, more to Haeundae, and fares rise late at night. This is the most convenient option for groups of three or four splitting the cost, or for arrivals after public transit has stopped running.

International ride-hail apps have limited functionality in Korea; Kakao T is the most widely used local app and has an English interface, but it generally requires a Korean phone number to fully set up. For a first arrival, the airport taxi stand is the simplest fallback.
