Why you are probably reading this

In Busan's 2024 visitor survey, 34.9% of foreign visitors said they had been to BEXCO — the eighth most-visited place in the city, ahead of Taejongdae and Songdo. That number surprises people, because BEXCO is a convention center and almost nobody flies to Busan to see one.

The explanation is that it is hard to avoid. Two metro stations carry its name, the City Tour bus stops outside, the Museum of Art shares its block, and Centum City's department stores are a few minutes away. Most of that 34.9% passed through rather than visited.

So this page is not a tour of an exhibition hall. It is the three things about BEXCO that actually affect a visitor: which station to use, when an event there will cost you money, and what is worth doing on the same block.

Three stations, and which one you want

BEXCO is served by three stations, which is a lot of choice for one building and a reliable way to add fifteen minutes to a walk. The center publishes exact distances, so this is worth getting right before you set off.

FromToWalk
Line 2 Centum City Station, Exit 1Exhibition Center 1About 50 m
Line 2 Centum City Station, Exit 1Exhibition Center 2About 380 m, past the Auditorium
Line 2 BEXCO (Museum of Art) Station, Exit 9Exhibition Center 1About 100 m
Line 2 BEXCO (Museum of Art) Station, Exit 5Exhibition Center 2About 453 m, past the museum
Donghae Line BEXCO Station, Exit 1Exhibition Center 1About 280 m toward Centum City
Good to know: Distances are BEXCO's own published figures. Your ticket will name a hall rather than a station, so check which of the two exhibition centers your event is in — they are a five-minute walk apart and the wrong guess costs you that twice.

When an event here changes your trip

This is the part that matters even if you never go inside. BEXCO runs large trade shows and conventions through the year, and a big one fills eastern Busan's hotels. Haeundae and Centum City rates rise, availability tightens, and the metro between them gets noticeably busier in the mornings and at closing time.

If your dates are flexible and your budget is not, it is worth a look at BEXCO's event calendar before booking a room in Haeundae. If the dates are fixed and a major show overlaps them, staying somewhere else in the city is usually cheaper than paying the surge two stops from the venue.

The same logic runs the other way for concerts. The Auditorium and the exhibition halls both host large shows, and if you are in Busan anyway it is worth checking what is on rather than assuming a convention center has nothing for you.

The museum next door is mostly closed

The Busan Museum of Art shares the block, and most guides still tell you to combine the two. That advice is out of date: the main building has been closed for renovation and stays closed until 2026, and the children's gallery with it.

What remains open is Space Lee Ufan, the separate pavilion for the Korean artist's work. It runs Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00, with last entry at 17:30, and closes on Mondays and January 1 — if a Monday is a public holiday it closes the following day instead. Admission is free for now, a temporary arrangement while the renovation runs.

The museum parking lot closed in May 2024 and docent tours are suspended until the main building reopens. Come by metro: BEXCO (Museum of Art) Station Exit 5 puts you about 100 m away.

Good to know: Closure dates and reopening plans move. Check art.busan.go.kr before building an afternoon around the museum, particularly if you are reading this well after the update date at the top of this page.

What else is on this block

Centum City is a business and shopping district rather than an old neighborhood, and it is best treated as a stop rather than a destination. The department stores are a few minutes on foot, the Busan Cinema Center — the film festival's main venue — is nearby, and Haeundae Beach is two stops further east on Line 2.

The honest summary is that BEXCO is worth twenty minutes if you are passing and an afternoon only if there is an event on. It is a well-run venue in a modern district, and neither of those is why people come to Busan.

  • Check which exhibition center your event is in before choosing a station exit
  • Big shows push Haeundae and Centum City hotel prices up — check dates before booking
  • The Museum of Art's main building is shut until 2026; only Space Lee Ufan is open
  • The City Tour Red line stops here, at the Museum of Art and BEXCO stop
  • Nothing here needs cash — it is a modern district and cards work everywhere

Frequently asked questions

What is BEXCO?

Busan's convention and exhibition center, in Centum City in Haeundae-gu. Exhibition Center 1 is 26,508 m², Exhibition Center 2 is 19,872 m² and the Auditorium is 4,766 m². It hosts trade shows, conventions and large concerts rather than being a tourist attraction in its own right.

Which station is BEXCO?

Three serve it. Line 2 Centum City Station Exit 1 is about 50 m from Exhibition Center 1 and the usual choice. Line 2 BEXCO (Museum of Art) Station Exit 9 is about 100 m from the same building. Donghae Line BEXCO Station Exit 1 is about 280 m. For Exhibition Center 2, Centum City Exit 1 is about 380 m past the Auditorium.

Is BEXCO worth visiting as a tourist?

Not on its own. It is a working convention center, and the 34.9% of foreign visitors who report going there mostly passed through on the way to Centum City, the Museum of Art or the metro. It becomes worth a trip when there is an event on that you want to attend.

Is the Busan Museum of Art open?

Only partly. The main building is closed for renovation until 2026, along with the children's gallery. Space Lee Ufan remains open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00 with last entry at 17:30, closed Mondays and January 1. Admission is free for now during the renovation.

Will a BEXCO event affect my hotel booking?

It can. Large trade shows fill hotels across Haeundae and Centum City, pushing rates up and availability down, and the metro between them gets busier at opening and closing times. If your dates are fixed and a major show overlaps, staying elsewhere in Busan is usually cheaper.

How do I get to BEXCO from Haeundae?

Metro Line 2 westbound, two stops to Centum City or one to BEXCO (Museum of Art), depending on which building you want. It is a short ride and there is no need for a bus or taxi.

Is there parking at BEXCO?

BEXCO has its own paid parking, but the Museum of Art's parking lot closed in May 2024 for the renovation. With three metro stations on the block, driving here is the harder option during any large event.
