How we chose
The writer's picks, with METIZEN's published roundup as the starting point and every detail checked against Naver Place listings

How this list was put together

Busan takes its coffee seriously. In 2022 a barista from a Busan cafe became the first Korean to win the World Cup Tasters Championship, and in 2024 the World Barista Championship itself was held in the city, where a Busan-born barista finished fifth. Some of the people behind those results run cafes that are a short walk from a subway exit.

These eight are the writer's picks. The starting point was METIZEN's June 2026 roundup of Busan cafes that concentrate on the coffee itself: roasting, brewing and explaining the beans. We then checked every cafe against its Naver Place listing on September 18, 2026 for the address, opening hours and menu prices, and checked the competition results against Busan Ilbo reporting and coffee trade press.

This guide sticks to what can be checked: where each cafe is, what it is known for, what it costs and when it is open. Prices and hours change, so check the listing before a special trip.

The eight at a glance

Hours are from each cafe's Naver listing as of September 18, 2026. Distances to the station are straight-line, so allow a few extra minutes on foot.

Nampo and Jungang: two cafes near Gukje Market

If you are spending the day around Gukje Market, Jagalchi Market or BIFF Square, these two are one subway stop north at Jungang Station, and both are about a ten-minute walk from the market lanes.

Aery Coffee sits right outside Exit 1 of Jungang Station, on two floors. It is run by a team that includes barista Lim Jeong-hwan, who placed fifth at the 2024 World Barista Championship in Busan. It serves rare, high-end beans at a light roast, and METIZEN singles out how carefully the staff explain the beans. The filter coffee is priced by the bean of the day, so ask before you order. Open 10:00–19:00 daily, last order 18:30.

Mark Coffee Roasters is a small micro-roastery about 170 m from the same station, and it has been roasting in the area for more than 15 years. It is the cheapest cafe on this list: an americano is 3,500 KRW, a latte 4,000 KRW, and a rotating single-origin "coffee of today's weather" is 5,000 KRW. It also sells beans from 50 g, which is useful if you want something light to take home. It opens 12:00–20:00 on the days it is open, but those days change: when we checked in September 2026 its listing showed it closed Saturday through Tuesday. Check the listing or its Instagram, @markcoffee, before going.

Seomyeon and Jeonpo: a veteran roastery and a champion's bar

Seomyeon is Busan's main downtown and the transfer point between Lines 1 and 2, so you will likely pass through it. Jeonpo, one stop east on Line 2, is the neighborhood known for its cafe street.

Black Up Coffee's Seomyeon main branch is one of the city's best-known roasteries and marks its 20th year in 2026. The ground-floor bar is the place to sit if you want the barista to walk you through a brewed coffee. The signature drink, listed as 해, 수염, is a cold brew with sea salt and cream at 7,000 KRW; an americano is 5,500 KRW. Open 09:00–22:00 daily, about 230 m from Seomyeon Station.

Month Coffee Bar in Jeonpo is run by Moon Heon-gwan, who won the 2022 World Cup Tasters Championship in Milan — the first Korean to take that title. The coffee is lightly roasted and meant to drink clean and easy. An espresso is 5,000 KRW and a latte 6,000 KRW; filter coffee is priced by the bean. Open 11:00–19:00 on weekdays and 11:00–20:00 on weekends, closed Tuesdays.

Gwangalli and Marine City: coffee with a sea view

These are the two to pair with a beach walk. Both are on the waterfront.

BCBL Coffee Roasters is on the second floor of a building on Gwangalli Beach, facing Gwangan Bridge. It keeps seven or more single origins on the menu at a time. A filter coffee is 6,500 KRW, and it also bakes: kouign-amann, donuts and baguettes from about 2,200 KRW. From Geumnyeonsan Station on Line 2, take Exit 5 and walk toward the beach, about 5 minutes. Open 10:00–21:00 Sunday to Thursday and 10:00–22:00 on Friday and Saturday — late enough to see the bridge lit up.

Momos Coffee is one of Busan's most famous roasters; its flagship roastery is in Geumjeong-gu in the north of the city. The Marine City branch is the one to visit if you are staying in Haeundae: it sits on the ground floor of an apartment tower, across the road from the seafront promenade, about a 15-minute walk from Dongbaekseom. It opens at 07:00, the earliest on this list, and serves sandwiches and sourdough as well as coffee. A hand drip is 6,800 KRW and an americano 6,000 KRW. You can order by scanning a QR code. Open 07:00–18:00 daily, last order 17:30.

North Busan: Pusan National University and Dongnae

These two are in residential neighborhoods rather than sightseeing areas. They make sense on the way back from Beomeosa Temple, since Pusan National University Station is on Line 1 between the temple and the city center, or as a trip for coffee's sake.

Cospir is led by Jeong Hyung-yong, the 2019 Korea Brewers Cup champion, and the brewing is the show here. A brewed coffee is 6,500 KRW, or 8,500 KRW for the higher tier; an americano is 5,000 KRW. From Pusan National University Station, take Exit 3 and head toward the north public parking lot; it is about 20 m into the alley beside a raw-fish restaurant. Open 11:00–18:00 on weekdays and 11:00–19:00 on weekends.

Eolruk-gae goes the other way from most specialty cafes: it is a micro-roastery for dark roasts, with a heavy body and a long finish. If you find light-roast coffee too sour, this is the one to try. A hand drip is 6,000 KRW. It is on the second floor, about 150 m from Nakmin Station on Line 4. Open 11:30–20:00, closed Sundays.

Ordering at a specialty cafe in Korea

Most specialty cafes offer a filter coffee, often listed as 필터 커피 or 핸드드립 (hand drip), with a short list of beans to choose from. The menu usually describes each bean by its tasting notes. If you want to avoid sour, fruity coffee, say 산미 적은 걸로 주세요 — "one with less acidity, please."

You will often be asked 드시고 가세요? — whether you are drinking in. Answer 매장이요 for here or 포장이요 to go. Iced is 아이스 and hot is 따뜻한 걸로.

Korean cafes almost always take cards, but confirm at the counter. How much English the staff speak varies; pointing at the menu works everywhere.
